Exciting News

We have wanted to find the forever home for The Sheffield Creative Reminiscence Collection since it was put together in 2017.

The Montgomery did a fantastic job of housing and promoting it since 2017, but since lockdown has been shut so not accessible to people living with dementia who it is most needed by.

It was after much deliberation that the UREKA! moment came and we realised that the best home for the collection would be somewhere it could be used everyday by care staff and volunteers as a tool of communication with people living with dementia. Also, somewhere that was completely accessible to Sheffield dementia cafes to book out and borrow.

We have Mooooooved!

NEWS

The Sheffield Creative Reminiscence Collection has mooooooooved to Sheffcare!

Between lockdowns, we met with Kathryn Rawlings, the volunteer manager at Sheffcare, to officially gift the entire Sheffield collection to Sheffcare (and to lug it into her car from the Monty which took a while!).

Sheffcare, if you haven’t heard of it, is a registered charity, operating in Sheffield and serving the needs of over 1000 older people. The charity has been operating for 27 years, since starting in 1994.

In 2019 Carrie Backhouse ran an intergenerational project with the 10 care homes in Sheffcare and was so impressed by the activities coordinators proactive and inspiring approach to person centred care, that I was hoping to do some more work with them. So when the UREKA! moment came it seemed that Sheffcare would be the obvious place for the collection to live.

During the lockdown, the fantastic Kathryn Rawlings has been reorganising the collection and we’ve added some super fun Active Minds resources to it. (If you’ve borrowed it before, do check out the new resources! )

We’ll keep you posted when the Sheffield Creative Reminiscence Collection is open for Sheffield Dementia Cafes to borrow.
